WILDLIFE: What The Heck Is A Giant Armadillo?
Meet the biggest living armadillo. Meet the biggest armadillo ever too.
So you woke up this morning and the first thought to enter your head as you lay there trying to sweep the cobwebs from your mind was...
What the heck is a giant armadillo anyway?
Yep, this happens to me all the time too.
As you might expect, the giant armadillo is the largest living species of armadillo, weighing up to 60-70 pounds. Rare individuals have been found weighing up to 180 pounds.
Because of it's significant size, the giant armadillo is seen as an inviting source of meat by some people, and is thus considered to be in danger of extinction. Some speculate the population of giant armadillos may have declined by as much as 50% in recent years.
The giant armadillo lives in South America.
The giant armadillo likes to eat termites and ants, but will also eat other creepy creatures such as spiders and snakes.
Here are a few videos featuring the giant armadillo.
Glyptodont
Lest you be too impressed by today’s Giant Armadillo, the Glyptodontidae, an ancient relative of the armadillo, could grow to the size of a car.
