TannyTalk Update #2: January 28, 2023
Summary: The Doomsday Clock takes over my brain, and there's a really good excuse for why there's no new nature content this week.
Good Morning!
Hi there subscribers, this is Phil Tanny from TannyTalk.com writing to bring you a quick update on new articles on the site.
Don’t forget, as the boldly decisive consumers of high end content who brilliantly became among very the first subscribers to this blog, when TannyTalk becomes bigger than the New York Times YOU will be able to boast to your friends that you knew me when I was a total nobody.
Whoa, that’s exciting! Should you wish to include any of your friends in this historic moment, please feel free to slam dunk the TannyTalk.com URL right in to their inboxes. Whooosh! Thanks!
And now on with today’s show…
This was a big week for the Doomsday Clock run by the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists. It seemed that just about everybody had something to say about The Clock this week, the Kremlin too. And everybody would of course include we in the peasantry at the nuke section of TannyTalk.
The Bulletin of Atomic Scientists presented this challenge to it’s readers.
The Challenge: "Our belief is that because humans created these problems, we have the obligation and opportunity to fix them. So, in the 75th year of the Doomsday Clock, we’re asking people to share their ideas about what can be done to turn back the Clock."
I can never ever possibly resist “give us your ideas” requests to save my life, and so I boldly bellowed out my suggestions in an article entitled Attempting To Meet The Challenge. Many thanks to environmental journalist Andy Revkin for his article which got me moving in this direction.
In another post with the title Washington D.C. Is A Very Vulnerable Target I asked a question which has been making my brain hurt for years. Why I ask you, why, have we allowed the heart of the United States federal government in Washington D.C. to be such a target rich environment? Has anyone in Washington heard of 9/11, or say for example, nuclear weapons? This article lists a near countless number of very important agencies in Washington which could be destroyed, or at least disabled, with a single nuke.
Not content merely to make a lot of noise telling very smart people in our nation’s capital why they are actually stupid beyond belief, I’ve just published the first article in an ambitious new article series which will explore the proposal that World Peace Is Possible.
Is world peace possible? Yes! Not easy for sure, but possible. The choice is ours.
As uplifting a claim as that may sound, the proposal contained within the article is perhaps the least popular idea I’ve ever shared on the Internet. You’ve been warned. It’s not my original idea, but it’s the kind of concept I always love, an opportunity to make a rational case for the supposedly ridiculous.
No New Nature Content This Week
If you’re enjoying the North Florida nature imagery on the site (tons more coming), I really do apologize that I wasn’t able to upload any new content this week. But I have a good excuse!
This is the time of year when North Florida is transformed in to the Garden of Eden. The weather has been spectacular and I’ve been out in the woods from dawn to dusk soaking in the glory of it. So, no new nature content, but lots of real nature, which is obviously way better.
Oops, wait, sorry, I lied.
In between pretending I’m a pine tree, I was able to get up four pages of photos and videos of Big Shoals State Park. Only in Florida would these river rapids be considered exciting, but we are in Florida, so we are excited!
There are four pages of Big Shoals content:
So, that’s it for this week. Thanks again for being part of my life, and here’s hoping all is well at your end!
If we don’t have a global nuclear war this week I’ll be sharing more with you soon. If we do have a nuclear war which brings this civilization to a quick end, the next issue of TannyTalk may be slightly delayed.
