FORT CLINCH: Amelia Hotel
Amelia Hotel is a good place to stay while visiting Fort Clinch State Park. Page 6.
The Amelia Hotel is right across the street from a great beach, and serves as a good jumping off point for visits to Fort Clinch State Park a few miles to the north, and a long series of great beach destinations that extend south all the way south to Jacksonville. Please note that this review is from our visit 20 years ago.
The hotel is in a modern building and everything about the place has a new and clean feeling to it. Rooms are available with ocean views, or if you'd prefer not to be on the street side you can choose a room on the back overlooking the pool.
The hotel staff we've encountered have been polite, friendly, helpful and efficient. As you know, you can't get this level of service everywhere, so a word or two of appreciation is appropriate here.
There's a variety of morning chow, like coffee, cereal, bagels, toaster oven waffles etc, available every morning in the lobby.
You step out of the hotel and cross A1A, a two lane highway, and you're on the beach. There's an attractive little city facility called Seaside Park on the beach, right across the intersection from the hotel.
The historic downtown of Fernandina Beach is about a 10 minute drive away.
Fernandina does a better job than most beach towns of creating a charming and inviting atmosphere for visitors to enjoy. A lot better job actually.
There is a great little harbor, and an old style downtown main street with plenty of shops, restaurants and bars. If you enjoy historic buildings you can explore a few blocks in any direction from main street to see a selection of turn of the century style older homes.
The Amelia Hotel offers convenient access to miles of great beaches from the St. Mary's River on the northern border of Florida, all the way to the St. John's River in Jacksonville. You can easily drive to any of these beaches and be back at the Amelia Hotel by the end of the day.
From a nature lover's perspective this area from Fernandina to Jacksonville might offer the best selection of beaches on the east coast of Florida.
How To Get There
Fernandina Beach, and the Amelia Hotel, are on the northeast corner of Florida.
You can reach the area by taking exit 373 off of I-95. The hotel is a 20 to 30 minute drive from I-95.
When you get off the interstate go east on State Road 200 for about 15 miles until you reach Sadler Road.
Turn right on Sadler Road.
Sadler Road will take you to the beach and the Amelia Hotel is found at the intersection of Sadler Road and South Fletcher Avenue (also called A1A), right on the beach.
